Narcissistic Victim Syndrome – This counselling is for Adult Children of Narcissistic Personalities and Partners and Ex-partners
This is different to working with Narcissists. This is working with people who have been effected by the behaviour of narcissistic and psychopathic type behaviour by living with someone who has that behaviour.
This requires a specific type of counselling which Tania has specialised in. A grandiose or overt narcissistic personality is one with five or more of the traits in the list below.

Theres also another type of narcissist called a covert narcissist. The difference between the two is whether their personality of more extrovert or outgoing or whether they are more introverted. The covert narcissistic type is introverted and uses power in a more underhanded power under way by manipulating through being nice, being a rescuer or a martyr and through making others feel sorry for them. An overt narcissistic personality type handles power differently to this, by directly using power over and bullying type behaviour and intimidation and fighting. In reality people can be anywhere between the two extremes and can even change slightly at times. They it gets more complicated because there are some more complex issues such as borderline narcissist which is a mix of another personality disorder and narcissistic. The great news is it doesn’t matter what type of narcissist for you to get help.

Sharing living space with this type of personality, especially growing up under one causes specific types of problems with relationships as adults. Partly this is caused because a child goes through phases in development, which involve becoming independent. Living under a Narcissist the child is not allowed to become independent which causes developmental problems. Narcissistic personalities tend to see their children and spouses as an extension of themselves but at the same time an object rather than a person. Because of this attitude the narcissists and psychopaths act super controlling. A child is expected to do exactly as they think, want and expect, immediately. A child or spouse of a narcissist is often not allowed to express anger, or say no. If they do they are shamed and made to feel like they are so bad they should not exist in some cases.

Narcissists have extremely subtle yet unusual behaviour including manipulating people to dislike their child or spouse so they can keep the child, even as an adult all to themselves and control and manipulate them, and same with the spouse. The narcissist and psychopath tend to lie a lot or embellish to slant themselves as grandiose and magnanimous. When challenged they tend to fly into a rage or retaliate in such a way the child or adult child will not confront again.
Narcissists use the following ways to manipulate and control their spouses and children, including adult children who may or may not have left home:-
• Guilt driven manipulation eg I sacrificed my life for you. How could you say such things, how could you be so cruel and wound me like that, you hurt me.
• Dependence techniques eg I need you, I can’t live without you, I will kill myself or I am too ill to live without you, all of which is often feigned.
• Goal driven devices ie we set this business up together we need to work together. You can’t get rid of me.
• Explicit mechanisms eg if you do not do what I want and work using my beliefs, values, religion, and if you don’t answer my questions correctly to prove this then I will do something to you that you really won’t like – such as emotionally blackmailing you, cutting you out of the will, ignoring you beating you, making you feel bad about yourself by shaming you and putting you down so much you feel it to the very center of your being. I will continue this until you are back under my control again and do as I want.There are many more behaviours to go along with this narcissistic personality type which effect the people who cohabit with narcissists.
